The worsening road conditions and swift growth in the volumes of vehicles are major factors contributing to the rise in accidents.

According to Metropolitan Traffic Police, poor road conditions, reckless driving, over-speeding, and drunk driving are the major reasons for road accidents. “From 2011 to 2019, a total of 1342 people have lost their lives in road accidents”, said Metropolitan Traffic Office’s Spokesperson and Superintendent of Police, Ravi Kumar.

He further gave the breakdown of the number of people who lost their lives in various accidents from 2011-18.
