At least 202,643 houses still under-construction
KATHMANDU, July 9: More than 500,000 houses damaged by the 2015 Gorkha earthquake have already been rebuilt, according to the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA).
Speaking at the Development and Technology Committee of parliament, Sushil Gyawali, chief executive officer of NRA, said that at least 507,623 houses have been rebuilt, while 202,643 quake-hit houses are under reconstruction.

According to the NRA, as many as 70,097 houses have been reconstructed in Sindhupalchowk, while 64,124 buildings were rebuilt in Nuwakot district. Likewise, in Gorkha – the epicenter of the earthquake – 56,000 houses have been rebuilt.
During the meeting, he also informed the committee members about the state of reconstruction of heritages, government buildings, among others.
Likewise, Kalyan Kumar Khadka, chairperson of the committee, said that the reconstruction of private houses and schools has been satisfactory. He also directed the NRA to carry out the reconstruction of heritage sites rapidly.
During the meeting, Gyawali also said that the reconstruction has been carried out in an effective way with support from the development committee.
