DHADING, Oct 30: A mortuary fridge has finally been introduced in the Primary Health Care Centre in Gajuri.
The mortuary fridge was set up to preserve unidentified dead bodies following accidents along the Prithvi Highway and the Trishuli River bank.

The mortuary has made it possible to preserve the dead bodies for conducting autopsy. Gajuri Rural Municipality spent approximately Rs 900,000 on the mortuary. In the absence of the freezer, doctors and nearby locals faced widespread problems due to the bad odor produced by the rotting bodies.
Often times, the stinking smell made it difficult for doctors to treat patients within the hospital premises so they were forced to check the patients at nearby residences.
Previously, the hospital had only one mortuary that could accommodate only three dead bodies at a time. Doctors were forced to conduct immediate post-mortem in the hospital yard as there would often be five dead bodies per day.
The Primary Health Care Centre, Gajuri has become the first health centre in Dhading district to make available a proper freezer to store the bodies.
Lack of a proper freezer was extremely problematic for residents and health care workers as the dead bodies used to be unattended for weeks creating problems regarding basic hygiene and sanitation.
