MUGU, Jan 10: Absence of health workers at a local health post of western Khatyad Rural Municipality-10, Hyanglung of Mugu has deprived patients of viral fever from treatment and medicines.
With the sudden dip in temperature, there has been an outbreak of various cold related diseases and infections in the villages. As per the provision, there should have been at least four health workers at the health post. But, currently, there is not even one of them. This has deprived the locals even of basic medicines such as paracetamol, informed Kishan Lal Rokaya, a local.

Health Assistant Janak BK, in-charge of the health post, as well as assistant health workers Takka Bahadur Dangar and Bhawana Karki along with assistant nurse Kep Kumari Chand, all are currently absent from the health post. As informed by Rokaya, though health post is run by the office helper, there isn't any medicine there. A non-governmental organization named Phase Nepal distributes medicines free of cost thrice a week but that's not enough for the locals.
Earlier, people of Hyanglung, Riga, Sei, Dumana, Bina and people of some villages of neighboring Bajura district used to take benefit from this health post. However, these days, the locals have been disappointed as there isn't any health worker.
According to Suraj Garau, chief of the District Health Office (DHO), Mugu, it is the responsibility of all wards and rural municipalities to regulate the staffers and arrange medicines. Garau also informed that he was unaware about the absence of health workers at the health post.
DHO Chief Garau assured that he will make efforts to improve the condition of health posts by regulating staff and providing medicines.
