Mukherjee returns home

KATHMANDU, Nov 4: Wrapping up his three-day state visit to Nepal, Indian President Pranab Mukherjee returned home on Friday evening.

KATHMANDU, Nov 4: Wrapping up his three-day state visit to Nepal, Indian President Pranab Mukherjee returned home on Friday evening.



President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi, other Ministers and high government officials had gone to the Tribhuvan International Airport to see him off. 



During his stay in Nepal, Mukherjee held talks with senior Nepali leaders including President , Prime Minister and the chiefs of all major political parties.

The Indian leader who is credited for facilitating Nepal's transformation from a Hindu kingdom to a secular, federal democratic republic visited Nepal's famous Hindu temples including the Pashupatinath in Kathmandu and Janaki temple in Janakpur.



He also visited the lake-city Pokhara. Leading a 60-member delegation, Mukherjee had arrived at 12:30 pm Wednesday on a special aircraft of the Indian Airforce. 



During his visit, President Mukherjee announced India's support to the reconstruction and renovation of the open crematoriums at Pashupatinath.  



He also announced that the Government of India will build two inns and a ring road in Janakpur.



He also said that from 2017 onwards, Nepali students could sit for the entrance exams of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Nepal itself.
