MUMBAI
Nargis Fakhri has featured in a music video with Punjabi singer Maninder Buttar called Mera Rang. ETimes caught up with her in an Instagram live as she spoke about her experience on working in this song. But the conversation wasn’t limited to her music video. Naturally, the chat veered towards beauty and Nargis revealed how celebrities have to deal with unreal standards of beauty and fitness.

Speaking about receiving compliments for her beauty avatars on social media, Nargis said, “We are used to getting compliments about our physical appearance and our beauty. But the compliments that matter, are the ones that appreciate a person's heart and soul. The ones that say you're a genuine and good human being.”
On the subject of body positivity and body shaming Nargis also spoke of the criticism that Miss Universe Harnaaz Sandhu received of late, for her weight gain. She said, “I don't care what other people think. People are fickle, they're sheep, they will follow what others are doing. They change their mind from one minute to other. So I kind of wave it off. Harnaaz is absolutely gorgeous. Her weight gain is perfectly normal. The worst part is these trolls who comment on beauty and celebrity bodies haven’t won a single pageant, they’re probably not even in good shape themselves, but they sit behind their computers and phones and spread negativity. For people like Harnaaz and I, who are in the public eye, we need to brush off this negativity and just look after our self.”
But not everything is grey in the world of social media. Nargis feels some fans make a positive impact on celebrities’ lives, too. Speaking about her own experience with fans, she said, “There was a time it used to feel really strange to have so many people love me and express their admiration and affection, but over the years I've grown up to appreciate the fans and what they do for me. There's a fan in Delhi who has stuck by me from the very beginning, so every time I'm in Delhi I reach out to her and we try to hang out. The great thing about having fans is that one positive comment and one compliment can go a long way in making you feel positive about yourself.”
