KATHMANDU, Dec 30: The Election Commission is preparing to establish the Office of the Election Officer in all provinces from January 1 for the National Assembly elections scheduled for January 25.
The Election Commission on December 28 appointed district judges of seven districts as the election officer in accordance with the National Assembly Election Act, 2055, to be effective from 1st of January.
Nomination registration begins in Ilam for by-election
Following the appointment, election officers should coordinate with the EC to establish the Office of the Election Officer in the respective provinces, said EC Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Paudel.
The EC has appointed District Court Morang’s judge Durga Prasad Dhungel as election officer of Koshi Province, District Court Dhanusha’s judge Narayan Prasad Subedi in Madhes Province, District Court Makawanpur’s judge Mahendra Bahadur Karki in Bagmati Province, District Court Kaski’s judge Keshav Prasad Bastola in Gandaki Province, District Court Dang’s judge Kripasur Karki in Lumbini Province, District Court Surkhet’s judge Bishnu Prasad Aryal in Karnali Province and District Court Kailali’s judge Om Prasad Aryal in Sudurpaschim Province.
The date for the filing of nomination papers for candidates for the National Assembly election has been fixed for January 8. The tenure of 20 upper house members, including 19 elected lawmakers and one member nominated by the president, is ending on March 3. The legal provision requires that the election should be held one month before the tenure expires.
