KATHMANDU, Feb 20: The national identity (ID) card distribution is to begin in all local units of Taplejung district from the second week of March.
The collection of details for the national ID card has been taking place through the District Administration Office. So far, 2,362 people - 1,352 males and 1010 females - have registered themselves for the ID card, said Chief District Officer Jharendra Prasad Chapagain.

The national ID card distribution team will now go to every municipality to collect the details. The team will stay for at least 15 days in one municipality/rural municipality, said director of the national ID and civil registration Bishnu Hari Upadhyaya. The details collection will take place in every ward.
Meanwhile, the National ID and Civil Registration Department has requested all local unit chiefs and administrative officers to support the details collection process of the ID card.
Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Ghanendra Maden said that this campaign should be taken as a great festival and be supported by all.
The National ID card is an integrated form of the citizenship, voters ID and other identity cards with data and information of national importance. The government will be making National ID cards mandatory to receive services provided by the state, hence it must be carried by every Nepali citizen, Director General of National ID and Civil Registration Department, Jitendra Basnet said.
