National women's volleyball from Sunday

KATHMANDU, June 24:Sher Bahadur Khadka Memorial Foundation is organizing Yeti Flooring National Women's Volleyball Tournament from July 26 to 29 at the covered hall of the Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu.


Organizing a press conference in the capital on Thursday, Foundation President Ranjan Khadka said that the tournament will feature six teams including three departmental teams -- Tribhvuan Army Club, Nepal Police Club and Armed Police Force  -- New Diamond Academy, Western Region and Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Center. The matches will be played in the league-cum-knockout format after dividing the participating teams into two groups of three.

According to the organizer, the name of the event has been changed from Sher Bahadur Memorial Tournament to include the title sponsor from this edition. The title sponsor Yeti Flooring will provide support worth Rs 500,000 including Rs 300,000 in cash. Remittance Company IME is the co-sponsor of the tournament and will provide Rs 200,000 to run the event.


The top three finishers will bag purse of Rs 100,000, Rs 60,000 and Rs 40,000 respectively along with trophies and certificates. Similarly, the best player of the tournament will be rewarded with Rs 15,000 and best players in each positions - spiker, quicker, blocker, setter, defense and server will get Rs 3000 each.


Nepal Volleyball Association will look after the technical aspect of the tournament and an organizing committee under coordination of its secretary Jagdish Bhatta has been formed to run the event smoothly.

The expected cost of the event is Rs 1.2 million.
