KATHMANDU, June 27:Departmental team Nepal Police Club and Western Region recorded victories in the Yeti Flooring National Women's Volleyball Tournament that kicked off at the covered hall of National Sports Council (NSC), Tripureshwar in Kathmandu on Sunday.
In the inaugural match, Police defeated New Diamond Academy 3-2, while Western beat Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Center on three straight sets.
In Group B match, Police took first set 25-18 but New Diamond bounced back to claim second and third sets to challenge the departmental side. Diamond claimed the second set 25-16 and third set 25-18.
New Diamond, APF make winning starts
However, Police was at its best to win the last two sets and produced upsetting result for New Diamond, one of the best women's team in Nepal.
Police dominated the fourth set 25-13 to add excitement as the game extended to the fifth set.
In the fifth set, Police, which was level on 12-12, grabbed three important points to win the final set 15-12.
In another match, New Diamond was too hot for Tribhuvan Army Club as the former won the match in three straight sets.
New Diamond claimed the first set 25-13 and won second set 25-15 before producing 25-13 win in the last set.
Likewise, in Group A match, Western edged past Jawalakhel 25-13, 25-9, 25-15.
The tournament, being organized by Sher Bahadur Khadka Memorial Foundation, will conclude on June 29.
The winner, runner-up and third place finisher will get Rs 100,000, Rs 60,000 and Rs 40,000 respectively. Similarly, best player of the tournament will get Rs 15,000.
