KATHMANDU, April 7: The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has hit back at Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli for portraying the grand old party in negative light by distorting facts and figures in the white paper.
The left government, which came to power promising economic revolution, has painted a bleak picture of the country's economic situation blaming the liberal economic policies for the current state of affairs in its white paper.

Presenting the white paper nine days ago, Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada had claimed that "fiscal indiscipline and dependence on revenue generated through imports is expediting deindustrialization process for the grim macroeconomic indicators and weak budgetary position”.
"The governments formed after the 2006 people's movement in the country were mostly headed by leftists," NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba said on Friday, taking strong exception to Minister Khatiwada's claims that the liberal economic policies had failed.
Addressing a program organized in the capital on Friday, Deuba said that the left governments in the past had roles in pushing the nation's economy to the brink.
Several NC leaders have claimed that the economic situation is not as grim as it appears in the white paper.
Speaking at a different program on Friday, NC leader Prakash Man Singh accused the left government of deliberately misleading the public with baseless information about Nepal's economy. He said that the NC did not 'spoil' the country's economy as reported in the white paper.
Some NC leaders claim that Finance Minister Khatiwada, who served as the vice chair of the National Planning Commission and the governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, was equally responsible for the poor economic indicators.
