NC and UML more worried about intra-party conflict

JHAPA, June 11: While both the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) and the main opposition CPN-UML have been claiming that they would win 10 out of 15 local units in Jhapa district, both the parties are in a situation where they have to be more wary of intra-party conflict rather than threats from their competitors. Of late, both the parties have been witnessing increasing conflicts among their own leaders over providing the election tickets.

The intra-party conflict between party leaders that had started from the moment of recommending party candidates for election tickets in the last election still have not settled down. Instead, such dissatisfactions have been getting even more intense with time, it has been observed.

Due to such bitter experience from the first phase of the local elections, leaders of both the parties are worried that it might have profound impact on the results of the upcoming second phase polls. Although efforts have been made to solve such problems within the parties, some of the dissatisfied leaders are contemplating to protest, claimed trusted sources.

Some of those who did not get election ticket in the first phase polls stated their dissatisfaction that election tickets are given to those who are closer to the party's central leaders instead of truly deserving candidates.

“This time, the situation is such that we have to be more wary of avoiding such intra-party conflicts than threats from the competitors,” said a UML leader requesting anonymity.
