This comes a day after a joint meeting of NC, Janata Samajbadi party and rival faction within the NCP decided to challenge the move of Prime Minister Oli on political and legal grounds. They have already started taking to the streets against the government's controversial move.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has already dissolved the House of Representatives and set new dates for the mid-term general election in May at the recommendation of Prime Minister K  P Oli. New dates for the mid-term election have been announced for April 30 for the first phase and May 10 for the second phase of the election.

All opposition parties have decided to challenge the decision of the government. A writ petition has also been filed at the Supreme Court, raising questions about its constitutional grounds.
