KATHMANDU, Feb 25: The district presidents of Nepali Congress have called for holding a Mahasamiti meeting yet again, complaining that the statute endorsed by the highest policy making body was reversed by the central working committee.

A meeting of the NC district presidents, who gathered in Kathmandu on Monday, made the decision arguing that some provisions of the party statute were reversed by the CWC meeting despite the fact that those provisions were already endorsed by the Mahasamiti meeting.

“The CWC meeting has no right to alter the decisions of the Mahasamiti meeting,” NC president of Mugu district Khadga Bahadur Shahi said, adding, “So, the Mahasamiti meeting should be called again to decide on it.”

A CWC meeting of the Nepali Congress held on Sunday had passed the statute by a majority of votes. During the Mahasamiti meeting, the district presidents had demanded that the central committee members should be elected from the party's lower level and that the same candidate should not be elected twice through the proportional representation (PR) system.

Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba had agreed to address the demand put forth by the district presidents during the Mahasamiti meeting held in December.
