KATHMANDU, Nov 29: CPN-UML Chairman K P Oli has claimed that the Nepali Congress (NC) has lost the people's trust as it has failed to lead the country towards prosperity even after getting opportunity to form majority governments twice before.
Addressing election campaign meetings in New Baneshwar and Lagankhel on Tuesday, Oli accused NC of failing to lead the country towards prosperity.
“The current leadership of the NC is not honest, though the party has a glorious history of having great leaders like BP Koirala and Ganeshman Singh,” Oli said addressing the mass gathering at New Baneshwar. “But today's leaders of NC are not trustworthy.”
Former Prime Minister Oli promised to lead the country towards prosperity and stability, by forming a majority government of the left alliance after the upcoming elections. “We are about to complete the political transition in the country. The upcoming election will prove to be a milestone in leading the country towards development, economic prosperity also institutionalizing the political achievement,” he added.

Claiming that the decision of the CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) to form a poll alliance and unite the two parties eventually is aimed at leading the country towards prosperity and growth, Oli reiterated that the two parties have not formed the alliance to take benefit from the state resources. “We have announced to make the two parties one because we need to drive the country toward prosperity,” said Oli.
Stating that the new constitution has also envisioned prosperity and stability in the country, Oli urged the voters to choose the party which can institutionalize past achievements and ensure greater progress of the country.
“Our long struggle will go in vain if we fail to lead the country toward stability and prosperity. It is not possible to reverse the country to the status quo with UML and Maoist joining hand to lead the country to prosperity and stability,” he added.
Oli also flayed the NC for forming an electoral alliance with Rastriya Janata Party Nepal. “NC has formed an alliance with a party which has proposed to make the country a multi-nation state and has leaders who are not loyal to the nation,” he added.
Claiming that NC's ideal leader Ganeshman Singh had also quit the party accusing the NC of failing to work, Oli urged the people to join the left alliance instead of forming a new party, quitting the NC. Oli criticized NC leader Prakash Man Singh, who is also a candidate of Kathmandu-1, for not raising the issue of the Indian economic blockade at the UN forum.
Aiming a satire at the newly emerged Bibeksheel Sajha Party, Oli termed the new party 'an immature child in politics'. “Can a child learning football play against Lionel Messi? Can he/she tackle him?” Oli asked.
Oli also accused Netra Bikram Chand, chief of Communist Party Nepal (CPN) of trying to become the new king of the country. He came down heavily upon Chand for carrying out anti-poll activities and ambushing candidates.
Alliance holds mass meeting blocking road
The left alliance's decision to hold a mass gathering at a busy road section at New Baneshwar received public ire on social media for obstructing traffic at the peak hour. The alliance had convened the mass gathering west of the parliament building, obstructing traffic movement toward Old Baneshwar and Thapagaun from New Baneshwar.
Social media users complained to the Election Commission and Hello Sarkar through social media accusing the alliance of breaching the election code of conduct which bars political parties from organizing rallies and mass gatherings obstructing roads and public services.
