KATHMANDU, June 27: The internal dispute within the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) is becoming more complicated. While President Sher Bahadur Deuba has been delaying the meeting of the party’s central committee (CC), central member Madhu Acharya has submitted an application to the central office demanding a CC meeting. NC, which is taking decisions through meetings of office-bearers and ex-officers, which are not recognized by the party's constitution, has not yet convened a meeting to review the Local and House of Representatives (HoR) elections held in November last year.
NC also postponed the meeting called earlier saying that it will be held only after the presidential election. After the presidential election, the alliance that collapsed after the election has returned to its old place. But the meeting of the NC central committee has not been held for 11 months. According to the party statute, the central committee must meet every two months. But not only President Deuba, but also other NC leaders have not shown much interest in calling the meeting. Some necessary decisions are made through the working committee. There is a provision in the statute that the decision of the working committee must be approved by the central committee.

Not only that, the party’s statute provides that all party bodies should be completed within six months of the convention. But NC has not been able to nominate even the central treasurer of the party and the central committee has not been completed. The condition of the departments is still precarious. Other than the training and establishment department and the publicity department under the leadership of the vice-president, no other organization has been established.
It’s the same situation with the fraternal organizations of the party. A few days ago, President Deuba prepared to complete the fraternal organizations including Nepal Student Union, Nepal Tarun Dal. However, due to the inability to reach an agreement with other factions within the party, although the central committee of the Nepal Women's Association has been formed, the central committees of other fraternal organizations are incomplete. At the same time, the central member Acharya has registered an application in the central office demanding to call a CC meeting of the party. The meeting of the NC central committee has not been held since mid-July last year.
