KATHMANDU, April 4: Jeevan Bahadur Shahi, the leader of the Nepali Congress Karnali Province Parliamentary Party has had his position as a provincial assembly member suspended.
Shahi's provincial assembly member position was suspended automatically after the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) registered a corruption case against him at the Special Court.

As per the provisions outlined in the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2058, CIAA Act 2048, if a corruption case is registered against an individual holding a public position, that individual is automatically suspended from that position.
The CIAA has registered a case against 32 people, including NC leader Shahi, who formerly served as the tourism minister, alleging corruption in the procurement of two wide-body aircraft. The CIAA has claimed that there was a corruption of Rs 1.47 billion in the purchase of two wide-body aircraft in the past.
In the election held on November 20, 2022, Shahi was elected from the Humla Provincial Assembly (2). In the year 2022, Shahi was the only candidate to be directly elected to the provincial assembly from the Nepali Congress party in Karnali. After the split of the then Nepal Communist Party, Shahi assumed the role of Chief Minister of Karnali as part of the then political alliance.
