KATHMANDU, March 15: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Prakashman Singh has said the party should select its candidates for the upcoming local-level elections in a rational and unanimous manner.

Speaking at a programme organized to congratulate the newly-elected leadership of the Federation of Contractors Associations’ of Nepal ( FCAN) here today,  the party’s former Vice President Singh was of the view that those who were confidantes of and close  to the party leadership were picked as candidates for local polls in the past, sidelining competent candidates.

As he explained, the party’s statute should be strongly followed while choosing election candidates.

It may be noted that the local polls have been announced for May 13 this year.

“The party has launched the ‘Let’s visit home, make the Congress victorious’ campaign in view of the upcoming local polls,” he said, adding that the party could secure a comfortable win provided that it takes the local polls as an opportunity to field capable candidates.

On the occasion, FCAN’s newly-elected President Ravi Singh pledged to dedicate his tenure as the FCAN leader for the rights of contractors and for the elimination of malpractices in the construction industry. “The post-COVID-19 situation requires contractors to work hard to bring the construction business back on track,” he said.
