MAKWANPUR, June 30: Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN (Maoist Center) have collected signatures of provincial assembly members of Bagmati Province against Rajendra Pandey, the CPN (Unified Socialist) leader who became the Chief Minister of the province on behalf of the ruling coalition. As per the agreement reached in the coalition, signatures have been collected to change the chief minister with the demand that the NC should lead the election government.
Pandey, the leader of the Unified Socialist parliamentary party, is the chief minister of Bagmati Province. As per the agreement, NC parliamentary party leader Indra Bahadur Baniya is preparing to become the chief minister after the budget for the fiscal year 2022/23 was passed.
Madhes parties suggest removing constitutional difficulties
Pandey became the chief minister on October 28, 2021 with the support of the NC, the Maoist Center, the Janata Samajwadi Party and Unified Socialist and was set to leave the post six months after his appointment. The provincial lawmakers collected signatures against Chief Minister Pandey as the NC should have got the post of chief minister as per the agreement but he decided to leave the ministerial post only after the direction of the central leadership.
