KATHMANDU, Aug 5: The ruling parties’ move to reject the nomination of Deepak Raj Joshee as the chief justice of Supreme Court has exposed the double standard of Prime Minister K P Oli, who himself had nominated him to the post as the chair of the constitutional council, the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) said on Saturday.
NC raised questions about the moral obligation of PM Oli since a meeting of the constitutional council upon the recommendation of the prime minister had unanimously nominated Joshee for the post of chief justice of the apex court but the ruling parties later rejected his nomination through parliamentary hearing.

“This naturally raises question about PM Oli’s moral obligation and his double standard,” reads a statement issued by the party on Saturday.
The main opposition party said that it was unfortunate for members of the ruling parties in the hearings committee to decide the fate of chief justice nominee Joshee on the basis of political affiliation instead of making a fair decision.
Similarly, the NC also said that the move of the ruling parties to reject Joshee’s nomination has once again confirmed that the government is heading towards autocracy. “NC urges the government to be serious about democratic values and principles,” the statement further read.
