KATHMANDU, June 25: National Assembly member Bam Dev Gautam has accused CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal for causing a split of the erstwhile Nepal Communist Party (NCP) formed after the merger between CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center).

Speaking at a program on Saturday, Gautam said that then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had dissolved the parliament after Chairman Dahal proposed a  no-confidence motion against Oli, who was then serving as chairman of the party, in parliament. He said that the main reason behind the dissolution of parliament was the unjustifiable proposal of Chairman Dahal against Chairman Oli.

Lawmaker Gautam also said that he did not join any group for the sake of unity among communists. He also said that the rumor of communist parties splitting because of him was correct up to some context.  He said that the party would not have been divided under any circumstances if he had mediated without going to Dahal's group at that time.

Gautam said that the party was divided as Dahal did not withdraw the allegations against Oli even though Oli was ready to step down from the post of Prime Minister.

While stating that the recent events had proved the Nepali Congress (NC) as a party not of middlemen and bureaucrats, Gautam said that the NC was a capitalist and reformist party. He accused the NC of ratifying the US funded Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC) under pressure through parliament.

Gautam said that looking at the results of the local elections, the NC would be the first party in the coming elections as well. Stating that things like MCC would get a place when the leadership was handed over to the NC, he said that the leadership of the country should not be given to the NC.
