KATHMANDU, Oct 1: Secretariat meeting held on Tuesday has advised Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara to step down both from the posts of speaker and member of lower house of the parliament after the latter has been accused of sexually harassing a female employee.
An emergency meeting of the NCP held at Prime Minister’s Residence, Baluwatar suggested Mahara to resign from the posts to pave way for launching a fair investigation into the allegation.
Mahara makes court statement, denies charges
The female employee at the Parliament Secretariat accused Speaker Mahara of sexual harassment after reaching her rented apartment at Tinkune, Subidhanagar.
Mahara, earlier on Tuesday met Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and NCP Co-chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal separately regarding the issue.
Voices are raised for immediate stepping down by Mahara from his post amid such allegations.
