KATHMANDU, April 1: The Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) has urged all political parties to pick election candidates based on ethnic majority and help make the indigenous nationalities victorious in the May 13 local election.

He was speaking at a press conference organized by NEFIN’s new leadership elected through its recently organized 10th national convention.

"The Federation has been continuously fighting to end discriminations including the ones based on politics, language, social and cultural beliefs. It will continue to fight to amend the constitution which is required to build high-powered autonomous, protected and special areas by establishing federalism along with identity."

Similarly, referring to the spending of the budget allocated by the local, provincial and federal governments for indigenous nationalities for other purposes, the Federation’s Secretary General Buddha Gharti said that pressure will be created on utilizing the budget rightly. Special initiatives will be taken for the inclusive representatives in state organs so as to protect and promote minorities, threatened and marginalized indigenous nationalities, he said.

Newly-elected President of the Federation of Nepalese Indigenous Journalists (FoNIJ) Gajurdhan Rai stressed the need for collaboration and coordination between the NEFIN and FoNIJ on their agendas to yield better results.
