RAUTAHAT, Sept 20: Police on Tuesday arrested a person on the charge of attacking two teenage girls of Rautahat with acid, two weeks ago. The arrested person happens to be a neighbor of the victims, who was reportedly wooing one of the girls.
Samjhana Das, 18, and her sister Susmita, 15, of Chandrapur Municipality-6, were thrown acid at midnight while they were asleep. Both of them have sustained serious burn injuries after the incident and are currently receiving treatment in Kathmandu.
I thought there was liquor in the bottle: Acid attacker
Sagar Das, father of the victims, had filed a complaint with police accusing Rambabu Paswan, 50, of the same village of throwing acid on his daughters.
Call records obtained from Paswan's phone show that the accused had called Samjhana 180 times in the last 15 days. It has been speculated that Paswan must have resorted to attacking the girls with acid after Samjhana did not reciprocate his calls.
As per the preliminary investigation of police, Paswan was infatuated with Samjhana while there were no such feelings from her side, informed SP Kedar Dhakal, chief of the District Police Office (DPO). Following the complaint of the victims' father and the telephone details of Paswan, police arrested Paswan six days later from Kirtipur.
Police have intensified investigation by remanding him in custody for eight days with the order of the district court.
