Nepal and India holding an IGSC meeting after three years

KATHMANDU, Jan 8: Nepal and India are holding a meeting of the Inter-Governmental Sub-Committee (IGSC) on Friday and Saturday in Kathmandu.

KATHMANDU, Jan 8: Nepal and India are holding a meeting of the Inter-Governmental Sub-Committee (IGSC) on Friday and Saturday in Kathmandu.


According to an official of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, the two countries are holding the meeting after three years. Last time, citing the impacts of COVID-19, the IGSC meeting was held via video conference on December 3-4, 2020.

The IGSC is a mechanism of joint secretary-level of Nepal and India formed to resolve issues related to trade, transit and cooperation to control unauthorized trade between the two countries. Although the commerce joint-secretary level meeting is supposed to take place on a regular basis, it is the first time in the past three years that the meeting is being organized.


The discussions made in the IGSC meeting are taken to the meeting of the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC), the mechanism at secretary-level of the two countries, for final approval.
