“The Chief of Nepal Army held a virtual meeting with division heads. It was a regular meeting, but the discussion today was solely focused on the latest political development. The headquarters has also directed all the divisions to stay alert in major cities,” an NA source told Republica.
“The Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force will keep an eye on possible violence. Having said that, the Nepal Army will also work with these forces for controlling violence as per the constitution of Nepal,” the source said.
Earlier today, a cabinet meeting decided to recommend to President Bidhya Devi Bhandari to dissolve the lower house--the House of Representatives. Following the move, the Prime Minister has been heavily criticized as the decision is “against” the constitution.
After the move, the Home Ministry has also directed three security forces--Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and National Intelligence Department--to stay on high alert over the possible violent protests against the government in major cities.
