Nepal beats Lanka, loses against India

KATHMANDU, April 25: Nepal has registered a 3-0 victory over Sri Lanka in the ongoing South Asian Regional Qualifiers Tournament for the ITF Asia U-12 Team Tennis Championship in boys’ category on Tuesday.

KATHMANDU, April 25: Nepal has registered a 3-0 victory over Sri Lanka in the ongoing South Asian Regional Qualifiers Tournament for the ITF Asia U-12 Team Tennis Championship in boys’ category on Tuesday. 


In boys’ singles matches played at the Satdobato Tennis Court, Nepal’s Aki Zuben Rawat beat Sri Lanka’s Lissal Gunetilleke 6-3, 6-4, while Nepal’s Aarav Samrat Hada thrashed Sri Lanka’s Vicinthya Nilabira 6-0, 6-0. Likewise, in boys’ doubles, the Nepali pair of Rawat and Hada saw off the Sri Lankan pair Thilina Dishanayake and Vicinthya 6-3, 6-0. Meanwhile, in the other matches of the boys’ category, India defeated Nepal 2-1. In boys’ singles, India’s Harish Fogat saw off Rawat 6-2, 6-2, while India’s Bansh Nanda registered a 6-3, 6-3 set victory over Hada.

Nepal, however, won in the boys’ doubles category. The pair comprising of Rawat and Hada beat Nanda and Rushil Khosla 3-6, 6-4 (11-9). 


In the other matches of the boys’ category, Sri Lanka and India defeated Bhutan and Pakistan by the same 3-0 scoreline. 


Likewise, in girls’ category, Nepal comfortably beat Sri Lanka 3-0. 


In girls’ singles, Nepal’s Aza Regmi defeated Sri Lanka’s Rajakaruna Ruby Liukebandra 6-0, 6-0, while Nepal’s Subhangi Laxmi Shah struggled to beat Sri Lanka’s Hasli Gajab 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. Also, in girls’ doubles, the Nepali pair of Shah and Aisha Dolker Gurung thrashed Gajab and Methasa Nelini Jayasurya 6-0, 6-0.
