Nepal Bicycle Tour kicks off to revive COVID-19 affected tourism

KATHMANDU, Nov 2: The tourism agencies in the country have joined hands to revive the tourism sector, which has been badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, by organizing a ‘Nepal Bicycle Tour’.

KATHMANDU, Nov 2: The tourism agencies in the country have joined hands to revive the tourism sector, which has been badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, by organizing a ‘Nepal Bicycle Tour’. 


The Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN), Nepal Association of Tours and Travel Agents (NATTA) and Nepal Mountaineering Association (NAM) are the organizers of the tourism promotion event which is promoted by the government’s tourism body - Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).

The Nepal Bicycle Tour group started their cycling from NTB’s office at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu. NTB’s CEO Dr Dhananjaya Regmi saw off the cyclists on Monday. The cyclists will be cycling from the Mahendranagar in the western part of the country to Pashupatinagar in the east. Renowned cyclist and Everest summiteer Pushkar Shah will be coordinating the bicycle tour. 


The team will cycle through Thakurdwara, Nepalgunj, Birendranagar, Ghorahi, Swargadwari, Tauhihawa, Bhairahawa, Butwal, Tansen, Pokhara, Narayanghat, Hetauda, Birgunj, Lalbandi, Janakpur, Gaighat, Dharan, Biratnagar and Kakarvitta covering as many as 1,624 kilometres during their three-week long sojourn. 


NTB member Deepak Mahat said that this bicycle tour will help breathe a new life into the COVID-19-affected tourism industry and promote NTB’s message across the country as the cyclists pedal through the length of the country. 


The tour will reach Pashupatinagar in Ilam. The team will return to Kathmandu after three weeks. The cyclists' team comprises Rajendra Sapkota, Shankar Adhikari, Mukti Pandey and Subhash KC, among others.
