KATHMANDU, Dec 3: Nepal bagged seven gold medals and one silver in the poomsae category of taekwondo in the ongoing 13th South Asian Games (SAG) at Satdobato on Monday.
At the Nepal Taekwondo Association (NTA)’s Academy Hall, Nepal, participating in 13 gold categories, won seven gold.
Likewise, Sri Lanka accumulated three gold medals, India won two and Bangladesh got one.
For Nepal, Ayesha Shakya claimed two gold medals with Parbati Gurung, Seena Maden and Kamal Shrestha won a gold each. In women’s team event poomsae category of 17-29 age group, Nisha Darnel, Swastika Tamang and Sanjila Timalsina and Nita Gurung, Prasamsha Chhetri and Susheela Rai won the gold medals in over 23 age group category.
Shakya first won the gold medal in the individual over 29 age group poomsae category and made it two partnering with Sanjeev Kumar Ojha in the pair category.
Gaurika claims eight golds
In the individual category, Shakya got the score of 8.940 to claim the gold defeating India’s Prajakta Prakash, who got 7.640. Likewise, Sri Lanka’s Gayatri Sandamarli and Nisa Mahrun won bronze with the scores of 7.7550 and 7.360 scores respectively.
In the over 29 years age group double poomsae category, Shakya and Ojha scored 7.96 to win the gold bettering silver-medalist Pakistan’s Mahrun and Sahabaj Ahmad, who got a score of 7.86. Also, Sri Lanka’s Andis and Sandamarli along with Bangladesh’s Dipu Chakma and
Mausum won silver garnering 7.560 points.
Similarly, in women’s poomsae, Parbati Gurung and Seena Maden won the gold, while Kamal Shrestha got the gold in men’s category.
Maden won the gold in the 17-23 years age group, Gurung got the gold in the 23-29 years age group and Kamal secured the gold also in the 23-29 years age group.
Maden scored 8.250 defeating India’s Rupma Bayor, who made a score of 8.130. Also, Sri Lanka’s Ishuri Mendis and Bangladesh’s Akiri Akter won the bronze medals. Also, Gurung garnered 8.250 points beating Sri Lanka’s Ranpatipura Jayabiral, who scored 8.140. Bangladesh’s Nirnahar Akter and India’s Harsha Singha won the bronze.
Shrestha, playing in the same category as Gurung in men’s poomsae, brought the gold with a score of 8.270 as he beat the silver-medalist Rahul Jain of India, who got 8.180. Also, Sri Lanka’s Nishanka Jayasinghe and Bangladesh’s Mehdi Hasan scored 8.15 and 8.060 points respectively.
In individual poomsae 17-23 years age group category, Nepal’s Krishna Bahadur Tamang had to be limited to a silver as he lost to Sri Lanka’s Ranuka Prabhath Menik Pedi. Tamang got 8.200 points, while Pedi earned 8.250. Also, India’s Lalthala Muinpui and Bangladesh’s Kamrul Islam won the bronze with the scores of 8.120 and 8.090 respectively.
In men’s over 29 years age group poomsae, Bangladesh’s Dipu Chakma won the gold with the score of 8.110 defeating Sri Lanka’s Laxman Andris (8.110), but Chakma won on the basis of spirit. Also, Nepal’s Rejin Dhimal and India’s Gangfung Gangs won bronze with the scores of 8.010 and 8.030 respectively.
In pair 17-23 years age group poomsae category, Sri Lanka won the gold, India claimed the silver, while Nepal and Bangladesh got the bronze.
Likewise, in the pair 23-29 years age group poomsae category, India’s Gaurav Singh and Harsha Singhe won the gold defeating Sri Lanka. Also, Nepal’s Jit Bahadur Bot and Parbati Gurung along with Bangladesh’s Mehdi Hasan and Nur Nahar got the bronze.
