Nepal, France to mark 70 years of relations

KATHMANDU, Jan 10: Nepal and France have agreed to mark the 70th anniversary of the diplomatic relations established between the two countries with various programs.

KATHMANDU, Jan 10: Nepal and France have agreed to mark the 70th anniversary of the diplomatic relations established between the two countries with various programs.


The two countries unveiled a number of programs to mark the anniversary during the visit of Secretary-General of the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs Maurice Gourdault-Montagne, who arrived in Nepal on Wednesday. He will head home on Thursday. The two countries established diplomatic relations in April 1949.

French Embassy in Kathmandu in collaboration with Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be organizing various events throughout 2019. The proposed events include drawing competitions, discussion programs, debate competitions, fashion show, taste of France, literary programs, music festivals, and honoring select French mountaineers among other things. 


The two countries also appointed Miss Nepal 2018 Shrinkhala Khatiwada, who was among the top 12 contestants of Miss World 2018 as Goodwill Ambassador for the commemorative events. 


A special commemorative logo designed by a student of Ecole Victor Hugo Manjushree Vidyapith Aayush Kunwar was also unveiled during the press briefing.
