Nepal goes down to Kyrgyzstan

KATHMANDU, March 29: Nepal crashed out of the AVC Central Zone Men’s Volleyball Championship on Tuesday after facing second defeat in a row against Kyrgyzstan.

KATHMANDU, March 29: Nepal crashed out of the AVC Central Zone Men’s Volleyball Championship on Tuesday after facing second defeat in a row against Kyrgyzstan.


A day after facing a 3-1 set defeat at the hands of the same opponent in the league round, Nepal faced a straight sets defeat in the playoff for the final on Tuesday. Kyrgyzstan overcame Nepal 25-16, 25-23, 25-20 to set up the title clash against Turkmenistan.

Kyrgyzstan and Nepal had booked their places in the playoff as second and third place finishers in the round-robin league contested by four teams including Turkmenistan and host Maldvies. Turkmenistan has already booked place in the final by the virtue of group winner.


The final of the tournament will be played on Thursday. Despite losing to Kyrgyzstan, Nepal earned bronze medal -- its first official medal in international volleyball. Nepal had overcame the Maldives earlier in the tournament.
