KATHMANDU, Aug 11: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) hit a record-high single-day turnover amount of Rs 25.77 billion on Sunday.


After the market started to follow the bullish trend, the daily turnover volume increased by a reasonable size in the past few days. Last week, the average daily turnover stood at Rs 20.90 billion. According to stockbrokers, the notable size of turnover amount ensures more stability of the share market.

In the intraday trading on Sunday, the secondary market jumped by 94.46 points to close at 2,860.84 points. It opened at 2,766.38 points and hovered around 2,800 points in the first over an hour. The index however escalated in the remaining period till the market closed for the day.


The sensitive index, which measures the performance of ‘A’ class companies, also added a notable 18.23 points. The daily turnover surged to over Rs 25.77 billion from Rs 20.07 billion on Thursday.


All the 13 groups were listed as gainers; life insurance gained the biggest of 605.04 points. A total of eight groups were successful in adding three-digit points to their market indices.


Among individual companies, 225 were recorded as gainers whereas only 15 were the losers.


Himalayan Reinsurance Limited had the largest turnover of its shares worth Rs 1.52 billion. Nine companies including National Hydro Power Company, Nerude Mirmire Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited, Hydroelectricity Investment and Development Company, Khanikhola Hydropower Co, Ankhu Khola Jalvidhyut Company, Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower, Shuvam Power Limited, Aatmanirbhar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited and Mid Solu Hydropower Limited were listed as the biggest gainers, adding 10 percent to their market values. Kutheli Bukhari Small Hydropower Limited was recorded as the biggest loser.
