KATHMANDU, Dec 26: Nepal has imported smartphones worth around Rs 13.6 billion in the first five months of the current Fiscal Year (FY). The Department of Customs (DoC) has unveiled data revealing that smartphones worth Rs 13.6 billion were imported into Nepal in the first five months of the fiscal year 2023/24.
As per the data released by the DoC, approximately 902,981 units of smartphones, valued at around Rs 13.6 billion, entered Nepal between mid-July and mid-December.

Comparatively, during the same period in the previous fiscal year 2022/23, Nepal imported 83,818 units of smartphones amounting to a total of Rs 11.20 billion.
The government collected a revenue of Rs 2.53 billion from smartphone imports. These smartphones originated from 48 different countries.
The data from DoC indicates that 657,188 units of smartphones, valued at Rs 9.48 billion, were imported from China. Additionally, 243,295 units of smartphones worth Rs 3.90 billion were imported from India.
From the remaining 46 countries, Nepal imported 2,498 units of smartphones, totaling Rs 210.2 million.
