Nepal makes winning start in Wheelchair Cricket C’ship

KATHMANDU, Dec 15: Bipin Paudyal’s four-wicket haul helped Nepal start the first International Wheelchair Cricket Championship with a nine-aAt the Tribhuvan University (TU) International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Nepal won the toss and elected to field first. It was given a target of 77-9 in the allotted 20 overs.

KATHMANDU, Dec 15: Bipin Paudyal’s four-wicket haul helped Nepal start the first International Wheelchair Cricket Championship with a nine-aAt the Tribhuvan University (TU) International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Nepal won the toss and elected to field first. It was given a target of 77-9 in the allotted 20 overs. 


Mohammad Ripon Uddin scored the highest 18 runs off 15 balls for Bangladesh that included four boundaries, while Mohammad Mohidul Islam and opener Sazzad Hossain hit 16 runs each for the losing side. 


Likewise, Mohammad Morshed Alam added seven runs off 12 balls including a boundary while Uzzal Bairagi and Mohammad Rajon Hossain scored four and two runs respectively on the Bangladesh board.

Bipin was pick of the Nepali bowlers as he picked four wickets sparing just 11 runs in four overs. Yam Bahadur Shrestha pocketed two wickets for the winning team. 


In reply, Nepal chased the target in just 13 overs at the loss of one wicket. Openers Digam Chemjong Limbu scored the highest 35 runs off 46 balls including three boundaries for Nepal while Nabin Rai hit 16 runs off 24 balls which included a boundary. 


Likewise, Jung Bahadur Thapa added 11 runs off 11 balls including two boundaries for the Nepali team.  Bangladesh’s Mohammad Rajon pocketed a wicket. 


India will take on Bangladesh on Friday while Nepal will face India on the same day. 


Nepal is on top of the standings with two points while Bangladesh is without a single point.
