Nepal partners up with Saudi Arabia for economic prosperity

KATHMANDU, Dec 14: Under Saudi Arabia Vision 2030, the campaign to advance Nepal toward economic prosperity through partnership and cooperation has started.

KATHMANDU, Dec 14: Under Saudi Arabia Vision 2030, the campaign to advance Nepal toward economic prosperity through partnership and cooperation has started.


Through Saudi Arabia Vision 2030, a strategic framework was discussed to reduce Nepal's dependence on Saudi Arabia's oil, diversify Nepal's economy and help develop public service sectors such as education and health.


Under this vision, a high-level visit between Nepal and Saudi Arabia is planned to strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

Vision 2030 aims to increase Nepal's tourism by the year 2030 and introduce it to the world, service sector, environmental protection, quality employment opportunities, and support in the development sector and make it economically prosperous.


Rajiv Pokharel, joint secretary of the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security, said that Nepali workers have got good jobs in Saudi Arabia. He said that one should be able to move easily to high-quality work and big posts and higher levels.


Similarly, he mentioned that after Nepali migrant workers came to Saudi Arabia, the relationship between the people of both countries is gradually increasing. Pokharel said, "The country with the highest demand for workers in the world, Saudi Arabia, has the highest number of people from Nepal."


According to the Department of Foreign Employment, the possibility of employment is increasing due to the ongoing development works in Saudi Arabia and the new approach taken by the Saudi government.


The former president of Nepal Association of Foreign Employment Agencies, Prem Katuwal, said that even though the Nepali youths went to Saudi Arabia, the workers were still not happy. He said that almost 500,000 Nepalis are working in Saudi Arabia.
