Nepal Police, APF given a week to recall orderlies

KATHMANDU, April 13: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has given a week to the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force to recall all the police personnel provided to VIPs and former top police officials for 'household chores'.

On Friday, the home ministry wrote to the police organizations to recall all the security personnel provided to former home ministers and former top police officials for purposes other than security within a week


KATHMANDU, April 13: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has given a week to the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force to recall all the police personnel provided to VIPs and former top police officials for 'household chores'. 


On Friday, the ministry wrote to Nepal Police and Armed Police Force to recall all the security personnel provided to former home ministers and former top police officials for purposes other than security within a week and inform the ministry on the matter, said Kiran Bhattarai, press coordinator of the home minister. 


According to him, the ministry will take action against the agencies if they disobeyed the directive. 



"The ministry's record shows that as many as 315 security personnel of Nepal Police have been provided to former chiefs of the security agencies as well former office bearers like ministers for various purposes other than security. Similarly, we have found that over 100 personnel of the Armed Police Force have been provided to former top officials for personal purposes. Now, all such personnel have to be recalled within a we”k," Bhattarai said.

He said that no onward all former office bearers can keep only a certain number of security personnel designated by the home ministry based on their security risk assessment.“


"Many former top officials of the security agencies as well as former home ministers have been found seeking more security personnel than allowed to them and have been using them in household work, which is against the law. So, the ministry wants to end this pract”ce," said an official, who oversees security personnel deployment to VVIPs, VIPs and former office bearers at the ministry. The official didn't want to be named.  


According to the official, as many as three former home ministers have been found taking additional number of security personnel than allocated to them and using them for odd jobs and duti“s. "Similarly, some former top officials of the two security agencies ranging from posts of IGP, AIG and DIG among others have misusing security personnel deployed for their secur”ty," said the official.  


According to the ministry officials, Nepal Police has already recalled 42 security personnel of the total of 49 deployed for 'household purposes' at the residences of former VIPs ranging from former prime ministers, former home ministers, ministers and politicians, among others. 


Press Coordinator of the Home Minister Bhattarai said that the ministry is also making preparations to review risk assessment for providing security personnel to former office beare“s. "Even though many former office bearers do not face security risk, they have been grossly misusing state facilities. The ministry will also review the security facility it has provided to them and give only to ne”dy," he said. 


As many as 2,500 security personnel from Nepal Police and Armed Police Force are currently deployed for the security of former office bearers, according to the ministry.
