KATHMANDU, March 9: Nepal is receiving the first consignment of the chemical fertilizer imported from Bangladesh on government-to-government basis.
This is the first time that Nepal has been procuring fertilizers on G2G basis from a country other than India. According to the Agriculture Inputs Company (AIC), 2,500 of the total 50,000 ton of chemical fertilizers that the government of two countries reached a deal with is arriving in Nepal by Tuesday morning. In the first lot, Bangladesh is providing 22,000 tons of the fertilizers via Kolkata sea port of India.

Last December, the government signed an agreement with Bangladesh to purchase 50,000 metric tons of urea fertilizer, targeting to improve fertilizer supply mainly during the upcoming paddy plantation season.
According to the AIC, the fertilizers imported in the first phase will be kept at the depots of the company in Biratnagar, Birgunj and Bhairahawa.
The AIC officials said the company has now 40,000 tons of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP), 7,000 tons of Potash and 10,000 tons of urea in stock.
