Nepal’s Tenzing Gyalzen Sherpa awarded the Guinness World Record for installing high-altitude weather station on Everest

KATHMANDU, April 26: Nepali mountaineer Tenzing Gyalzen Sherpa has been awarded the Guinness World Record for leading a team that installed a high-altitude weather station on Bishop’s Rock, a slab of rock just below the summit of Everest at 8,810 meters.

KATHMANDU, April 26: Nepali mountaineer Tenzing Gyalzen Sherpa has been awarded the Guinness World Record for leading a team that installed a high-altitude weather station on Bishop’s Rock, a slab of rock just below the summit of Everest at 8,810 meters.


The 14-member team, led by Tenzing Gyalzen, installed the weather station on May 9, 2022.

The weather station is one of five weather stations installed in the Everest region that gives scientists real-time data on what is happening on Everest.


The first weather station is at Phortse at an elevation of 3,810 meters. The second is at Everest Base Camp at an altitude of 5,315 meters; the third is at Camp 2 at 6,464 meters, the fourth is on South Col at 7,965 meters and the last one is just below the summit at 8,810 meters.
