POKHARA, Dec 5: Nepal national women's cricket team suffered a 10-wicket defeat against Bangladesh in the ongoing 13th South Asian Games (SAG) held at Pokhara Stadium’s cricket ground in Pokhara on Wednesday.
Bangladesh completed the chase of 51 runs in 7.4 overs with both the opening batters staying not-out. Ayesha Rahman stayed unbeaten on 26 whereas her opening partner Murshida Khatoon remained unbeaten on 23 runs to complete Bangladesh’s first win of the Games.
Nepal suffers 6-wicket defeat against India
Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and invited Nepal to bat first. Nepal was dismissed for 50 runs on 19.2 overs losing all its wickets. Only three batters were able to reach double-digit scores with captain Rubina Chhetri Belbashi, Sonu Khadka and Indu Verma scoring 13, 12 and 10 runs respectively. Bangladesh’s Rabiya Khan registered a four-wicket-haul as four Nepali batters were dismissed without troubling the scorers.
Nepal had won the first group match against Maldives and lost the second match. Nepal won in five deliveries against Maldives completing the chase of 17 runs without losing any wickets. Nepal will play its last match of the group stage against Sri Lanka on Friday. Nepal will need to win the match against
Sri Lanka to entertain any chance of reaching the finals.
The top two teams of the league stage will vie for the gold whereas the third and fourth placed teams will fight for bronze.
