KATHMANDU, Dec 17: Nepal Telecom is set to provide free internet and telephone services to government offices across the country.
According to an agreement between Nepal government, Nepal Telecom and Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration on Thursday, Telecom will provide telephone and broadband internet service in all local units of the country including ward offices, health offices, community schools and other local government offices.

The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration will facilitate and coordinate with the local government concerned and Nepal Telecom for the collection of demand and implementation of programs regarding the provision of telephone and broadband services in these offices.
Similarly, the ministry will provide necessary coordination and facilitation to Nepal Telecom and the local government in the implementation of projects run by Nepal Telecom using the Rural Telecommunication Fund of the Nepal Telecommunication Authority. In addition, the ministry will facilitate the provision of 'right or way' required at the local level for the expansion of services.
As per the agreement, Nepal Telecom will formulate and implement a plan in coordination with the ministry to provide telephone and broadband internet services to all local units and subordinate ward offices, health offices, community schools and other government offices. Free internet will be provided for web-based applications used for local level websites and online services.
