KATHMANDU, March 8: Nepal national football team is set to play two friendly matches against Kuwait and Malaysia in March.

Nepal will take on Kuwait in March 21 and it will play against Malaysia on March 26.

The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) said that Nepali team led by newly-appointed Swedish Johan Kalin will take on Kuwait in Kuwait and Malaysia in Malaysia.

These two friendly matches are seen as the test for new manager Kalin who was appointed recently by the ANFA.

Nepal has played four matches against Kuwait and six against Malaysia so far.

Nepal played against Kuwait at the Asian Games in 1982 in which Nepal lost 3-1.

Nepal lost 5-0 against Malaysia at the 1986 Asian Games, while Nepal was defeated 8-0 at the 1994 Asian games.

Nepal had lost against Kuwait at the 2000 AFC Asian Cup in their first meeting.

Nepal has not been able to win any match against Kuwait so far. So, the friendly matches are taken as early indication of Kalin’s tenure on how Nepali football may move forward in the days to come.

Kalin also said that the friendly matches will be a test for Nepal.

“This is my first tenure as Nepal coach. The matches will be a test for me and for the team as well,’’ Kalin said.

“I have included U-23 players for the team including some national players. New faces are also in the team.

This game will show the standard of Nepali football.’’
