KATHMANDU, Feb 27: Lawmaker of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Janardan Sharma warned the government not to make deliberate attempt to intimidate anyone by issuing a 'so-called' white paper in connection to Nepal Trust.
Addressing the 'Special Hour' at the meeting of the House of Representatives, Sharma objected to linking him to the decision taken by the Trust over leasing the land under its ownership.
"The decision was said to be taken on October 30, 2017, however, I had resigned earlier on October 16," said Sharma, who is also the former home minister.
Deuba decries Nepal Trust white paper as propaganda
His remarks come two days after the Nepal Trust led by the Defence Minister Ishwar Pokharel issued a white paper on the movable and immovable assets of the Nepal Trust.
"Is this an attempt to threaten me or get me to surrender?" questioned Sharma stating that the would stand firmly against any allegation against him.
Speaking further, he said that such an activity by the responsible government body has led him to fear about the trust deficit. "No one has a privilege to disseminate wrong information through media without having enough grounds. I need a convincing answer from the concerned authority in this regard."
He further said, "Why is this government attempting to defaming me? Is this because I lobbied for amendment of acts in the State Affairs Committee or I spoke against corruption?"
He also wondered why the white paper included only the names of Prime Ministers and ministers of former governments but not the present government.
Revealing that he visited the Trust office after the white paper was released, he also said that the staffers there did not provide him with any document in this connection. "Rather, they confirmed that no decision was taken during his tenure when I inquired how my name was linked to this case," he said. He also sought the clarification from Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa on the issue.
