MORANG, March 24: The players of the Nepal women’s football team, who finished as the runner-up of the fifth Women’s SAFF Championship, have been rewarded with Rs 250,000 each in Biratnagar on Saturday.
In the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA)’s General Assembly, the players who finished second after losing to India 3-1 were rewarded with Rs 250,000 each.
The ANFA, Province 1 government and Biratnagar Municipality announced to reward jointly with Rs 250,000 each for their performance in the SAFF Championship. The ANFA’s General Assembly appreciated the provincial government and the Biratnagar Municipality for the decision of to reward the players with the cash prize.
The ANFA Spokesperson Kiran Rai said that the association was giving Rs 100,000 each players for finishing second in the tournament.

According to Rai, the Province 1 government and Biratnagar Municipality announced to reward the players with Rs 100,000 and Rs 50,000 each. In the General Assembly, ANFA President Karma Tshering Sherpa also unveiled the documents about the development of Nepali football from the last General Assembly to the present day.
Rai also informed that the financial report of 2017/18 year presented by ANFA treasurer Rabindra Joshi was approved unopposed by the ANFA.
Likewise, Rai also added that Rs 237.45 million of budget of the fiscal year 2018/19 was proposed as per the annual program of the ANFA and the budget was approved after a discussion for the amendment.
Rai further added that the ANFA thanked everyone who helped and successfully organized an international tournament SAFF Women’s Championship for the first time outside the Kathmandu Valley. The ANFA General Assembly also announced that Khotang, Nawalpur and Manang committees will be given the temporary membership as an observer.
Governor Gobinda Bahadur Tumbahang of Province 1 felicitated the women footballers in his own residence for their performance in the fifth SAFF Women’s Championship concluded on Friday.
Tumbahang said that the organizing an international tournament is a matter of proud for the province. He encouraged the players to remain upbeat despite loss in the final match saying that winning and losing a match is natural in sports.
“Our team presented high class performance with discipline in every game,’’ Tumbahang said, “Province 1 is very excited after good performance by the Nepali team and by successful organization of the event.’’
He also requested the ANFA to create good environment for organizing international level football tournaments in coming days as well.
