A legendary sculptor Kalu Kumale inaugurated the 'Nepali Traditional Craftsmanship Seminar-2019' held in Naxal, Kathmandu on Monday. Nepal Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) and Crafts and Traditional Painting Department jointly organized the seminar.
Art Writer Gyanendra Bivash presented the workshop on 'Introduction, Impact and Presentation of Traditional Sculpture' and said that sculpture is the mainstay of the whole art style at the seminar.
He said, “If there is no sculpture in the art, the art can never effectively showcase its artistic beauty and identity. From this point of view, we can admit that sculpture is a particularly skillful creation of any art.”

Bivash expressed about the important aspect of sculpture in the jewelry of various castes in Nepal. "In Nepal, various castes have not only helped to identify their ethnic pride but have also addressed the prosperity of the nation's art and cultural heritage," he shared.
Commenting on Bibash's work paper, artist and author Devendra Thumkeli said the paper has emphasized the definition of sculpture. However, he suggested that the paper should further highlight the historical, cultural and social aspects of sculpture.
Similarly, artist and critic Mukesh Malla presented a paper on 'Nepali traditional crafts' and said that the artist should consider the importance of the craft.
Speaking at the program, Chancellor of NAFA, KK Karmacharya said the seminar was successful to examine the tradition of Nepali traditional sculpture. He expressed his commitment that the Academy will organize more seminars in effective and timely in the coming days.
