Nepse nosedives 28.59 points, daily turnover inches up to Rs 1.924 billion on Tuesday

KATHMANDU, Aug 1: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) on Tuesday plunged a notable 28.59 points to close at 2,077.58 points.


The secondary market opened at 2,106.17 points and rose to the day’s high at 2,124.22 points in the first one hour of trading. The market, however, went into a straight fall in the remaining trading hours and hit as low as 2,071.49 points in the last eight minutes of trading before the market recovered around six points to close for the day.

The sensitive index that measures the performance of blue chip companies also dropped 5.13 points. The daily turnover increased marginally to Rs 1.924 billion from Rs 1.85 billion on Monday.  


The index of mutual funds alone increased nominally by 0.05 points. Of the 12 losers, non-life insurance dropped the highest of 274.64 points while life insurance and hotels and tourism lost 222.53 points and 123.00 points, respectively.


Among individual companies, the market values of 196 companies declined. Only 17 companies were recorded as gainers. 


Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Ltd had the largest transaction of its shares worth Rs 87.403 million. While Kisan Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited was the topmost loser, Super Madi Hydropower Limited gained the highest of 4.60 percent.
