KATHMANDU, May 16: Prime Minister KP Oli on Sunday said that the annual budget 2021/22 will be introduced through the due parliamentary process amid growing concerns if the new fiscal year’s budget will come through an ordinance.

“Parliament is still alive to bring the budget,” said Prime Minister Oli, speaking at a press meet organised at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Singhadurbar. Oli said so at a time when the government has failed to work on the preparatory works for an annual budget announcement that needs to be held on May 29 as per the constitution.

After the Oli-led government was engaged in settling the political mayhem following the dissolution of the House of Representatives on December 20, 2020, the government has been unable to move according to the set timeline for budget preparation. With less than two weeks in hand, the government has even failed to present the ‘government’s policies and programs,’ which is one of the most essential elements to introduce the annual budget.
