NHRC seeks information from govt regarding the controversial ordinance

KATHMANDU, Dec 13: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has requested information from the government regarding the ordinance to be brought to facilitate the withdrawal of criminal cases.


A cabinet meeting held on Monday decided to bring an ordinance to facilitate the withdrawal of criminal cases related to incidents of a political nature. The government is trying to bring an ordinance to pave the way for the release of the advisor to Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP), Resham Chaudhary, who is serving a life sentence for the past five years for masterminding the 2015 Tikapur massacre in which nine people were killed. Lamichanne expressed opposition to the ordinance on social media.

The NHRC has said that it has learned about the government's decision through the media and has asked the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers Office for accurate details on the matter.


"The Commission has written to the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers of the Government of Nepal on Monday asking for accurate details in this regard," spokesperson Dr. Tikaram Pokharel said in a statement.
