NICCI Vice-president Sunil KC meets Bangladesh Home Minister Khan, advisor to PM Sheikh Hasina for promotion of investment and economic cooperation

KATHMANDU, Nov 1: Vice President of Nepal-India Chambers of Commerce & Industry (NICCI) Sunil KC has met with Salman F Rahman, Private Industry Investment Advisor to PM Sheikh Hasina. Rahman is also  one of the leading entrepreneurs of Bangladesh.

KATHMANDU, Nov 1: Vice President of Nepal-India Chambers of Commerce & Industry (NICCI) Sunil KC has met with Salman F Rahman, Private Industry Investment Advisor to PM Sheikh Hasina. Rahman is also  one of the leading entrepreneurs of Bangladesh.


According to a press statement issued by NICCI, discussions were held between the two sides for the promotion of Nepal- Bangladesh Joint ventures in the hydroelectric power sector in order to bring power from Nepal to Bangladesh. The discussions focused on promoting government an private investments in Nepal by bringing the Indian companies on board so that power sectors can grow smoothly in Nepal and fulfill the demands of Bangladesh.

Advisor Rahman said that the Government of Bangladesh seriously wants to make an investment once the Government of India is convinced and agrees to facilitate the cross-border power trade in this region. He further said that there is a conversation going on to import 50 MW of electricity immediately from Nepal to Bangladesh and if it happens it will be a game changing project between Nepal and Bangladesh, according to the statement.


Similarly, NICCI Vice President KC encouraged advisor Rahman to give priority to investments in Nepal's hydropower and develop cross-border transmission lines and collaborate in the biggest infrastructure projects. Advisor Rahman added that Bangladesh will make around USD 3 billion investment in Nepal from the government and private sectors in the days to come. 


KC also met Home Minister of Bangladesh, Asaduzzaman Khan, who is also a top leader of the Awami League party in the decision making board of Awami League being led by Sheikh Hasina and requested him to look at Nepal as a serious and reliable investment market. Minister Khan informed KC that he is really very positive about investing in Nepal and promoting bilateral economic relations even deeper and benefiting both the countries in the days ahead. He further added that he would raise the issues with his PM.
