KATHMANDU, Sept 11: Finance Minister Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat said that the government should accord high priority to the Nijgadh International Airport project.
Finance Minister Mahat said so on the occasion of the 110th BP anniversary. He mentioned that Nijgadh International Airport should have been built before Lumbini and Pokhara airports, but it was not possible because the government could not prioritize the work.

He said that the Kathmandu-Terai fast track will be built in the next four years and the airport will also be built in the same period. He said that hydropower and tourism sectors have huge potential in Nepal and emphasis should be laid on infrastructure development to link these sectors with economic prosperity. He said that many tourism destinations could not be promoted due to lack of infrastructure.
"We have not been able to set our priorities correctly. We have to accord top priority to Nijgadh Airport," he said, adding "The fast track will shorten the travel time to reach Kathmandu. It will take just 45 minutes."
Minister Mahat said that economic revolution is possible in Nepal if everyone works together. He said that the private sector should be the bearer of economic change and the government should play the role of a catalyst. He said that the government should increase investment in education, health and infrastructure.
"The government should invest more in education, health and infrastructure. The rest should be left to the private sector. As for distribution, the government should take charge of it," he said.
