KANCHANPUR, Sept 8: When IGP Sarbendra Khanal suddenly turned up at Nirmala Panta’s house on Thursday evening, her father was not at home. Durga Devi, the mother, and the other two daughters were very surprised and did not know what to say. Durga Devi had grown used to narrating Nirmala’s rape and murder to everyone who visited the family, and she did the same thing again in front of the police chief, she said.
“He told me to rest assured as justice would be done at any cost; the guilty would be brought to book, whoever it might be,” Durga Devi said.

“But I told him that the police did not go about the investigations properly at the beginning, and now all the proof was lost. He should turn the investigations on the police itself,” she added.
In her meeting with Khanal, Durga Devi several times requested him to investigate the police officer who had earlier led the investigations. Since he tried to wipe out all the proof, he must be investigated. The murderer would then be caught easily enough, she said she told IGP Khanal.
“I even told him that other girls won’t feel safe if the guilty in this case is not identified and punished,” Durga Devi said.
